Dementia Care Trainer – Alzheimer’s Association – New York City Chapter

The New York City Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is dedicated to working with those New Yorkers and their caregivers who struggle with the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The Chapter is currently seeking a dynamic, compassionate professional to fill the role of Dementia Care Trainer.

The Chapter’s Training department supports New York City’s Alzheimer’s community through the provision of a variety of education and training initiatives for both family and professional caregivers.

We are currently looking for a trainer whose primary role will be to facilitate our Family Caregiver Workshop in English.

The Family Caregiver Workshop is a ten-hour training designed to support family members in their caregiving journeys. The training aims to enhance knowledge and skills, helping participants to develop a deeper understanding of Alzheimer’s and related dementias as disease processes, enhance the caregiver’s ability to successfully engage and more effectively communicate with the person for whom they are caring, understand and intervene around common dementia-related behavior changes, and embrace the importance of self-care for the caregiver. Follow-up sessions for caregivers who have completed the Workshop are also facilitated by the trainer on a quarterly basis. The Chapter’s Dementia Care Trainers also develop and deliver educational seminars on a variety of topics, and facilitate fee-for-service trainings for a variety of audiences on an as-needed basis.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Caregiver Services.

The Dementia Care Trainer will:

Facilitate Family Caregiver Workshops at the Chapter’s Manhattan office and at locations throughout the five boroughs, through partnerships with other community based organizations
Conduct quarterly follow up sessions for past participants to reinforce learning and maintain their connection to the Chapter
Develop and deliver regularly held educational seminars on a variety of topics, in collaboration with other members of the Training department
