College Ambition Advisor – New Ambitions – Brooklyn, NY

New Ambitions is seeking a College Ambition Advisor to lead the college access journey at an advancing high school in NYC from September 2015 – June 2016. Please thoroughly review.

Primary Responsibilities

Implement College Ambition Curriculum within academic classes to reach all students in grades (10 – 12th)
Manage College Access Portfolios for all students enrolled in programs (Grades 10th – 12th)
Advise seniors individually through entire college access process including:

Selecting and applying for “best fit” colleges
Refining Personal Statements
Facilitating the Letter of recommendation process
Completing college applications and supplements on time
Filing Financial aid and Scholarship Applications
Evaluating Financial Aid Packages & alternative options
Helping students select the best fit college financially
Completing acceptance and enrollment requirements
Helping students transition to higher education

Track and evaluate key college access benchmarks for grades 10th – 12th
Facilitate College Access Workshops for parents
Organize and lead college field trips and college representative visits
Work with college admissions professionals to improve school visibility and help increase optimum recruitment outcomes
Maintain close communication with other key staff working to provide college access support
Submit scheduled progress reports and narratives to Director of Programs
Share pertinent information to teachers and parents in regard to college access journey
Build and promote college-graduate in high school

Key Qualifications

Languages: Must be fluent in both English and Spanish for this site.

Experience: Minimum of two years teaching or facilitating experience with high school students of different backgrounds, preferably in NYC public school system

Experience in college access, secondary education, or an educational non-profit

Availability: Applicant must be able to lead the entire program September 2015 – June 2016. Applicant must be available for intensive 1-2 week training in August and available to attend professional development trainings scheduled during high school student non-attendance days or non-religious holidays.

Required Technical Skills: Applicant must be Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and its Google counterpart, proficient in using both MAC & PC Platforms, and familiar with lesson plans and curriculum implementation
