Help win real improvements in students’ lives! Non-profit student association seeks an ORGANIZER for the University of Oregon student government and student groups in Eugene, OR. Applicants should have an activist background, strong verbal and written communication skills and a passion for educational and student access issues. Previous experience in student organizing and student government is preferred.

The UO Campus Organizer reports to the Organizing Director, who provides supervision in consultation with the Associated Student Government President. The Campus Organizer works with students and staff of the Associated Student Government and student groups, as well as working with OSA staff statewide. The Campus Organizer is responsible for the implementation and development of strategies and activities regarding issues the Associated Student Government and student groups prioritize. This includes campus outreach, conducting workshops and trainings, staffing and developing campus and statewide events, providing technical and field support for electoral and legislative campaigns, and working with students on campus-based and OSA projects. This person spends over 90% of their time on campus.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Training and skills development of ASUO members and student group members.
Presentations on campus about OSA events, activities and services that align with ASUO’s agenda.
Briefings on campus about current issues affecting students in the public policy arena.
Recruitment, training, and leadership development of students in organizing, research and advocacy.
Analysis and development of systems to maintain institutional memory within student government and student groups, including assistance in transitions between outgoing and incoming student leaders from year to year.
Support UO students to organize effective research projects, shared governance participation, educational events, and grassroots campaigns on campus and in the community.
Assistance with the coordination of outreach, publicity, and events to build awareness and support for the Associated Students, student groups, and OSA.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with administrators, faculty, and student organizations.
Recruitment, training, and development of students to participate in statewide organizing with the Oregon Students of Color Coalition and the Oregon Student Equal Rights Alliance.
Coordination of an internship class for the Associated Students of University of Oregon, including creation of curriculum, bringing in guest speakers, and facilitating trainings.
Active participation in organizational fundraising, including but not limited to recruitment of participants and presenters to Oregon Student Foundation and Association conferences and trainings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Understanding of grassroots organizing and electoral organizing.
Experience working with and/or ability to work with low-income communities, students of color, students from the LGBTQ community, students with disabilities, and non-traditional populations, including student veterans, student parents, and adult learners.
Experience working with student government or student groups on a college level.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated, out-going, and detail-oriented.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Annual salary $26,500-29,930

OSA prioritizes issues impacting underrepresented communities by engaging students of color and LGBTQ students at the statewide level. Please describe your experience and qualifications in advocating for, researching issues with, and training students from these communities.
OSA places a strong priority on addressing issues that primarily relate to access to quality postsecondary education. What do you think are the most critical issue(s) facing public postsecondary education? Why?
