Monument Academy is a unique and innovative model weekday boarding school in Washington, DC with a mission to provide students, particularly those who have had or might have contact with the foster care system, with the requisite academic, social, emotional, and life skills to be successful in college, career, and community, and to create an outstanding school that attracts, supports, and retains exceptional and caring people. MA opened in 2015, added another class in 2016, and will add 2 more classes over the next 2 years to house 160 students in grades 5-8.

About the Position
These are either full time salaried or part-time hourly positions that will be working with a team that includes our Director of Student Culture, our Coordinator of Academic and Behavioral Interventions, instructional staff, houseparent staff, and well-being staff. Applicants will be interviewed and signed to an employment contract starting in July 2017. Staff who work 35 hour per week or more are eligible for a salaried job with health insurance, paid time off, and employer-matched retirement plan. The ideal candidate for the position is someone who has the ability to interact well with children, works well both independently and cooperatively as part of a team, and is able to consistently follow our behavioral programs developed by our culture team and supported by our academic and well-being leadership. A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintaining a safe and productive learning environment for the school
Processing through behavioral challenges with students and teaching and reteaching strategies to support their continued social-emotional growth
Supervising rotations in the SKILL Center and creating a positive culture and environment in the space that is about learning and reflection
Supporting the school’s Positive Behavioral Support system including incentives and negative consequences
Supporting student growth across the school including providing behavioral intervention assistance in classrooms, student life homes, and common spaces
Facilitate/supervise school-wide activities such as lunch, dismissal, recess, and incentive based activities
Ensure electronic/paper documentation of assigned student is logged and maintained in a timely fashion
Contact parents for behavioral issues and maintain a schedule of follow up
Participating in parent or staff team meetings, as requested, to contribute to problem solving efforts around specific students
Creating positive relationships with staff and students
Covering classes for absent teachers if teachers are out
Supporting other duties as assigned by leadership to support the smooth operations of the school as well as student safety and learning.

Experience, Credentials, and Skills
2+ years of related work experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, particularly in area of social work, psychology or education
Strong ability to connect and work with students with behavioral challenges and provide structure
Cultural competency and ability to connect with families/caregivers

Salary Range: $32,000-$38,000, based on experience
