AmeriCorp Vista Volunteer Associate – 826NYC – Brooklyn, NY

Overview

The Volunteer Associate will work with the Programs and Volunteer Coordinator to attract and retain new volunteers, improve diversity amongst our volunteer pool, support volunteer performance and retention, and assist with the creation of a volunteer recruitment plan for future expansion.

Reports to: Programs and Volunteer Coordinator

Hours: Monday-Friday 9:30-5:30

Responsibilities

Work with staff to identify current barriers to diversity.
Research organizations and colleges who may be potential partners.
Crate a plan for informational and recruitment sessions, utilizing research to make the best pitch.
Create template for regular specialized trainings for volunteers on topics such as working with special needs students, ELL, and Middle School Math 101.
Conduct outreach to after-school volunteer population to ensure solid attendance at trainings and to solicit feedback for future events.
Assist with organizing three to four volunteer appreciation events for the year.
Create template for interviews with outgoing volunteers to discuss plans for following school year and ways to remain active.
Working with staff, develop a number of scenarios (location, type of program, etc) for program expansion.
Using experience and in coordination with the Volunteer coordinator, develop a template for adding programs throughout New York City for incorporation into planning documents.

Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree

Required Qualifications

Strong writing skills
Comfortable representing 826NYC to diverse groups
Ability to work well with a team
Proficient with computer applications (MSWord, Excel, etc.)
Strong work ethic, a collaborative spirit, a self-starter
Commitment to the mission of 826NYC

This position is an AmeriCorps VISTA position, administered by the Points of Light Foundation. A stipend is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
