8th Grade Humanities Teacher – St Francis Center of Redwood City

Holy Family School of the St. Francis Center

Holy Family School (HFS) is seeking excellent candidates for a junior high (eighth grade) humanities teacher for the 2015-2016 Academic year. This is a full-time position. Requirements include at least two years of experience teaching the humanities at the 6-8th grade or high school levels. The successful candidate will be able to masterfully teach English, literature, social studies, spelling and actively engage students in the learning process. The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated interest in multicultural education and educational technology and a deep concern for educational access, diversity and inclusion.

Organization Overview

Founded in 2000, HFS is similar in concept to a “one room schoolhouse” or “Little House on the Prairie” type school. Students, from this economically depressed community, are selected based solely on the fact that they are the least-economically able. HFS is: steeped in the Catholic tradition, coeducational, an independent school, which is comprised of two small divisions. Holy Family Lower School begins a cohort that stays together with one master teacher for six years (Kindergarten through 5th grades). Holy Family Upper School has one cohort of students that travel together for grades six through eighth grades. We have amazing students. For teachers who love teaching, value education and honor students, this is a dream position!

Holy Family School, located on the 2nd floor of our main social service building, provides a quality education to fourteen students from Kindergarten through the fifth grade and fourteen junior high school (6th-8th grades) students. Our students come from Central and South American immigrant families. These families cannot afford the tuition of a private education, so the families “pay” for their children’s education with a commitment. The parents must spend one day each week at the Center to enhance their own education. The idea is to raise the literacy rate of the whole family verses just the blessed children who have the opportunity to attend HFS.

This position advertises for a 8th grade humanities teacher whose teaching and curricular responsibilities will include but are not limited to: homeroom teacher, English/literature, reading, social studies, spelling and possibly religion.
