Youth Media Coordinator – Community Media Access Partnership – Gilroy, CA

Hours: 20 hrs / week Starting wage: $25 / hr

Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is a nonprofit community media center serving South Santa Clara and San Benito Counties. We empower community members, nonprofits, and local businesses to thrive in a digital world by providing tools, training, and television distribution on local cable channels. We are committed to promoting civic engagement, creative self-­expression, and life and career skills for youth and adults.

CMAP is looking for a dynamic educator / mentor to join our team as Youth Media Coordinator. This position’s top priority is developing and teaching an after-school workplace readiness curriculum for at-risk youth in South Santa Clara County. The Youth Media Coordinator reports to CMAP’s Program Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop workplace readiness curriculum for at-risk youth.

Promote youth media program(s) through in-person, print, and online channels.

Recruit potential participants, interview applicants, and help select program participants.

Lead after-school class sessions with small groups of up to 10 youth.

Build supportive, professional mentoring relationships with youth participants.

Track metrics for attendance, performance, and growth for all participants.

Create reports and give presentations for CMAP staff and external stakeholders.

Maintain clear communication with participants, parents / guardians, case managers, social workers, teachers, and other stakeholders in order to promote youth success.

Help to build partnerships with local nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses.

Work collaboratively with other CMAP staff to supervise assistants and interns.

QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years experience working with at-risk youth in classroom, after-school, counseling, and/or mentoring settings.

Connects quickly with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Responds promptly and professionally to challenging situations.

Communicates clearly in both verbal and written form.

High level of competency with Mac & PC computers, Microsoft Office, email, internet research, office peripherals (e.g. printers, scanners), and cloud-based platforms (e.g. Google Drive).

Basic competency with various multimedia tools, including: video, audio, and lighting equipment; video and image editing software; smartphones, tablets, and related accessories.

Able to quickly learn new technology tools.

Punctual and dependable for all work assignments.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with classroom teaching and curriculum development.

Experience mentoring youth on job skills and workplace readiness.

Advanced skills with computers, multimedia software (e.g. Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop), and multimedia equipment (e.g. video cameras, audio equipment, etc).

Experience teaching others how to use multimedia tools.

Familiarity with the communities of Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista.

Bilingual (English / Spanish).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A.A. degree or higher is required.

Formal certification in teaching, social work, or counseling is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be available to work in the afternoon and early evenings (during weekdays).

Must have a valid CA driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to a vehicle for business travel within Santa Clara and San Benito Counties.

Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
