Programs Associate Intern – Millennium Campus Network – Boston, MA

The Millennium Campus Network is transforming the future of global development practice by identifying and supporting key student leaders to:

1) re-think the paradigms that perpetuate inequality, including connecting how our social identities affect our work and including challenging all sectors in their effect on poverty

2) promote a human-centric and collaborative approach to global development based on authentic and community-led partnerships

3) transform dialogue into action by presenting opportunities to act, challenging youth towards advocacy, and celebrating concrete action.

Our Annual Conference, Global Campaigns, and Millennium Fellowship convene university students worldwide to become the people the world needs..

MCN Advisors include Dr. Paul Farmer, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, and John Legend. Our many committed sponsors and partners include: The Jenzabar Foundation, Hewlett-Packard, The UN Foundation, Better World Campaign, The Boston Globe, and Glamour.

Interns will work out of the MCN’s national headquarters in Boston’s Prudential Center.

Responsibilities

The Millennium Campus Network’s Millennium Fellowship Program convenes university student organizations working to achieve one or more objectives of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Fellows build their individual organization’s capacity as well as their collective social impact.

This will be our third year of the Millennium Fellowship and this is a critical year to get involved in a growing program.

As our Programs Associate Intern, work closely with the MCN’s Programs Manager to assist with the MCN Millennium Fellowship program implementation:

Significant management support for the Millennium Fellowship: taking detailed notes of the advice peer leaders provide each other, purchasing and setting up session materials/refreshments, and adding your ideas and insight to discussions as a student leader yourself.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Tracking data, writing and sending post-session notes to the Fellows, summarizing results, and contributing to mid-year and end-of-year program reports.
Mandatory attendance at all Fellowship Sessions: see mandatory session times below.
Liaising with MCN Staff in drafting official communications promoting the Millennium Fellowship program
Directly assist with Fellowship recruitment for Fall 2016, potential to support program expansion into other cities.

Duration

This intern must commit 8 hours per week from January 15, 2016 through April 29, 2016 in our Boston office, and may be needed for select events outside of the city. Mandatory Dates.

Hub Site Dates [all Thursdays, 5:30pm-8:30pm] at MCN Headquarters.Your role includes additional hours for session set up and debrief.

Internship includes the following dates from 4:30pm to 9:00pm.

January 21, 2016 February 4, 2016 February 18, 2016 March 3, 2016 March 17, 2016 April 7, 2016 Graduation Soiree with Donor’s Panel: Saturday,April 22, 2016, 5:30pm-8:30pm

Beyond these sessions, work hours are during business hours and flexible with your calendar. An exemplary intern in this role may be asked to continue their experience with us beyond April.

Qualifications

An outstanding work ethic, self-direction, initiative, and a positive, results-driven attitude
Demonstrated ability to think critically, deduce, and make connections between various materials, while quickly summarize results in writing.
Reliability is critical to our success. Please review your school, vacation, and other commitments before applying. If hired, the expectation is 100% attendance.
Demonstrated ability to both complete administrative tasks quickly and provide big-picture recommendations on programming for student organizations
Satisfactory academic standing and enrollment in a certified college degree program
Strong organization skills. Able to manage scheduling, coordinate initiatives and manage time effectively
A keen interest in global poverty, the MDGs, and related issues
A passion for leadership development, campus organizations, and working to improve the lives of the world’s billion poorest people

Passion for networking a plus

This internship is unpaid.
