Today, BCNC is one of the largest nonprofit social service providers for Asian American and Asian immigrant families in the Greater Boston region, serving over 2,000 children, youth, and adults each year at 3 locations in Boston and Quincy. BCNC serves families through Child Care & Enrichment Programs, Education & Workforce Initiatives, and Family & Community Engagement.

BCNC’s Education & Worforce Initiatives Department is currently looking for a Part-time Pre-Vocational Skills Teacher/Counselor.

The Pre-Vocational Skills Teacher / Counselor is one of three core staff serving trainees in the Boston Chinatown / South End Collaborative’s pre-vocational skills with ESOL training program. The Teacher / Counselor is responsible for developing and implementing a student-centered, objectives-driven English-for-employment and basic occupational skills training curriculum, to prepare adult immigrants for customer service positions in the Boston area. The Teacher / Counselor is also responsible for preparing trainees for job searching, the job application process, and interviewing, and for providing post-hiring retention support for trainees through case management.

The pre-vocational skills training will be conducted during the daytime, Monday to Friday. This position is 26 hours/week, $20/hour, and includes a benefits package of medical and dental insurance; paid holidays and vacation; sick leave; and personal days.

Skills and Experience Required:
Required:
BA in related field.
Minimum 2 years’ experience working with target population.
Knowledge and practical application of research-based teaching methods.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and the ability to integrate technology into the classroom.
Experience in curriculum development.
Good project management skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities concurrently.
Ability to work in teams.
Self-driven and results-oriented, with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high-quality service.
Accountable for learner gains based on standard metrics.
Flexible about researching and adopting new research-based methods for teaching English.
Responsible for own professional development, to ensure that teaching methods and skills stay current.

Preferred:
MA in TESOL.
Experience teaching Chinese immigrant learners.
Knowledge of Massachusetts DESE Adult ESOL Curriculum Framework.
Familiarity with the service industry and its career pathways.
