Media Associate – Earthjustice Headquarters – Washington, DC

The Media Associate will be responsible for serving as the frontline for all media queries, internal and external. The Media Associate will help determine which media queries come in through the media line are high-priority, and will do research on other media outlets to help determine whether the opportunity is worth taking, in consultation with other communications staff. This person will also track and compile media monitoring data, create media monitoring reports, and maintain media lists. This person will post press releases to the website and may help with social media coordination on breaking news. This person will help the Senior Press Secretary coordinate media contractors to support our regional offices located throughout the country. This person may blog and draft press releases, talking points, and media outreach content. The person will get exposure to a wide range of media platforms and environmental topics and will learn about the various elements of a successful media strategy first-hand, from professionals.

Responsibilities:
• Work with the Senior Press Secretary and other members of the Earthjustice media team to staff and support a wide variety of media outreach strategies and respond to media queries as they come in.
• Staff external and internal media requests, and redirects and tracks them as needed.
• Track and compile media monitoring data, create media monitoring reports, and maintain media lists.
• Help monitor and support media contractors for our regional offices.
• Draft blogs and press releases, talking points, and media outreach content.
• Post press releases to the website and help with social media coordination on breaking news.
• Help monitor media coverage to flag potential media opportunities as they arise.
• Help update media lists and contacts.
• If above responsibilities allow, take on special projects related to media opportunities for Earthjustice or the production of media-friendly content for the website.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or Marketing preferred.
• Some experience with media landscape and relations preferred.
• Outstanding organizational and multitasking skills.
• Excellent data organization and workflow management skills.
• Outstanding written communication skills.
• Ability to manage a fast-moving workflow.
• Social media experience and skills, especially Twitter.
• Some experience using multimedia communications tools.
• Excellent Excel and spreadsheet skills.
