LTW, Youth Development Specialist – Queens Community House – Elmhurst, NY

The Queens Community House (QCH) is a settlement house founded in 1975 that provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities. VOYAGES is a transfer High School in collaboration between the DOE and QCH which provides youth 16 – 21 with supportive services. The Youth Development Specialist will provide comprehensive case management to program participants as required by contract and appropriate to their needs. In addition, this position is expected to facilitate advisory, support students with college preparedness, and post secondary planning. The Youth Development Specialist reports to the Director of Counseling.

The Youth Development Specialists will:

Carry a caseload of up to 45 students and counsel each student on the creation and implementation of a post-secondary plan for college, training or employment
Conduct on-going attendance outreach, including home visits and work site visits.
Engage students’ families to support positive outcomes for the students’ and assist families with identified needs
Provide individual and group counseling and advocacy to support and motivate students
Create and facilitate interactive advisory to students
Maintain case files and attendance records
Maintain on-going communication with parents and guardians of participants
Record all interventions in PowerSchool web-based data base
Meet weekly with immediate supervisor
Monitor academic progress and counseling focused on progress reports and graduation status
Make internal (QCH) and external referrals as appropriate
Attend agency staff meetings and events, after school, student and parent events
Work collaboratively with DOE staff
Take initiative and demonstrating flexibility in responding to school needs
Assist with arranging college trips, fairs, and workshops for students.
Provide college counseling (including but not limited to; college research information, SAT registration, financial aid, assistance with the application process and college registration)
Follow up with student interested in college to give added support
Ensure that required follow ups are made to graduates (1Month, 6 Months and 1 year)
Ensure that 100% of the enrolled participants have a CUNY username and password
Attend staff development trainings (as needed) on the best practices in post secondary planning.
