Interim Executive Director – Performing Arts Workshop – San Francisco, CA

Performing Arts Workshop (the Workshop), igniting young minds since 1965, is dedicated to helping young people develop critical thinking, creative expression, and essential learning skills through the arts.

Performing Arts Workshop seeks an Interim Executive Director to execute a limited scope of work while the permanent Executive Director is on a 3-month maternity leave, late January/early February 2016-early May 2016. The Interim Executive Director position is a part-time, contract position. Work is expected to be on site at the Workshop’s offices (located at 1661 Tennessee St. Suite 3-O San Francisco, CA). The Interim ED will report directly to the board of directors.

Compensation commensurate with experience.

Interim ED Duties

Board

Serve as lead staff on board governance committee, as well as additional staff on finance and fundraising committees.
Prepare board packet for March board meeting and co-facilitate that meeting.
See that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.

Human Resources

Provide thought-partnership to senior staff (4 FTE).
Ensure a happy, healthy, working environment.

Operations

Maintain day to day operations, including check signing, senior staff reimbursement authorization, expense authorization, senior staff time sheet approval, withdrawal of petty cash
Triage any issues that arise with bank.
Review/submit monthly reports and invoices to gov’t contractors: including Department of Children Youth and Their Families, First Five San Francisco.
Work with Finance Director and finance committee to begin preparations of the FY17 budget.
Maintain official records and documents; ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations including mandated reporting, contracts, photo releases, and Memorandums of Understanding with school and community partners.
Ensure fidelity to board-approved FY16 budget.

Required Qualifications:

Management experience in non-profit organizations
Ability to motivate and empower employees and managers
Strong fiscal management abilities, including budget, grant and financial administration
Previous experience as an interim ED or similar position

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience or interest in serving specialized youth populations (newcomers, special education, transitional age, homeless, adjudicated, post-adjudicated)
Passionate about arts education, educational equity
