Grant Writer – Friends of the Chinese American Museum – Los Angeles, CA

The Friends of the Chinese American Museum (a 501c3 non-profit) seeks a grant writer for the Chinese American Museum (CAM), a public museum of the City of Los Angeles. This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for researching potential grant opportunities, writing proposals, and preparing reports to funding agencies.

The mission of the Chinese American Museum (CAM) is to foster a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, America’s diverse heritage by researching, preserving, and sharing the history, rich cultural legacy, and continued contributions of Chinese Americans.

Roles and Responsibilities

Generate and gather data and information to support grant and report preparation.
Drafts grant proposals, including budgets and necessary supporting materials.
Research available grants from diverse sources of funding.
Perform prospect research on funders, agencies, foundations, and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
Review proposal guidelines, prepare applications, letters of intent and make initial inquiries as appropriate.
Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage funding requests and grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources in a timely manner.

Knowledge and skills

Bachelor’s degree.
Prior experience in writing successful grants and reports; other fundraising experience also useful.
Demonstrated exceptional writing ability; effective business, technical, and persuasive writing styles.
Highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented.
Effective organizational skills and the capacity to simultaneously handle multiple activities with changing priorities.
Ability to work with minimal oversight to achieve team goals on a consistent basis.

Status: Consultant or part-time position

Compensation: Hourly rate ranges between $20-$25, or compensated with experience.
