CodeNow is a fast growing non-profit focused on teaching underrepresented high school students foundational skills in computer programming. We believe this is essential because it lowers the barriers normally associated with technology by opening the door at an early age when youth are beginning to explore options and opportunities. CodeNow is based in New York City with programs in the Bay Area, Seattle, and Miami. We are currently looking for someone experienced in the planning and execution of organizational and/or educational programs to join a growing team doers passionate about closing the diversity and gender gap in tech. The position offers great potential for professional growth and a real opportunity to have a tangible impact on the lives of youth across the country.

As the Director of Programs, you will be responsible for the operational success of our programs, ensuring seamless program delivery and quality control. You will manage and supervise key program staff to ensure timely coordination of services and flawless program execution. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that both organizational expectations and partnership goals are met effectively.

This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized and self-motivated; an analytical thinker and problem-solver with strong project management skills. Successful candidates should be team players that thrive in a dynamic startup environment. The role requires excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to multitask on a variety of detailed projects, and proven supervisory and management experience.

The Director of Programs is a member of the executive team and will be expected to collaborate on new program development and strategic planning, and to represent the organization externally. The Director of Programs is primarily located at our office in New York City, but will travel as required. Candidates must be committed to CodeNow’s mission.

Main Responsibilities:

Oversee the logistics of on going programs
Develop and implement strategies to recruit students in current and new cities
Develop and manage relationships with schools and community partners in current and new cities
Assists in the collection of metrics and report on progress
Assist in the writing of grants and proposals on behalf of the organization
Manage and develop employee talent
Build systems to allow the organization to be more efficient

What we are looking for:

Someone who is friendly, detail oriented, outgoing, and a team player
MA plus 3 years of relevant experience or BA plus 5 years of relevant experience
Background in working with high school students
Able to manage students, volunteers, and partners
Experience managing events and activities with many moving parts
Understanding of how to build systems and processes
Able to adapt quickly and wear multiple hats
Strong writing and public speaking skills
Self-starter, able to work independently
Ability to work weekends (when most trainings are held)
Willingness to travel
Great interpersonal skills
Meticulous planner

Pluses:

Basic programming skills or at least a willingness to learn
Teaching experience
Background in computer science or engineering
Experience writing grants
