Digital Strategist / Website Manager – The HistoryMakers – Chicago, IL

Digital Stragetist and Website Manager sought for The HistoryMakers (www.thehistorymakers.com), a national (501 ) ( c) (3) not for profit video oral history archive headquartered in Chicago, Illinois (http://www.thehistorymakers.com). This organization is experiencing tremendous growth and seeks to move to the next stage. This position is responsible for development and maintenance of the organization’s website and social media initiatives(i.e. Facebook ,Twitter, Linkedin, Wikipedia, Instagram). This individual must possess and demonstrate a commitment to the mission of The HistoryMakers and have the ability to function well in a mission-oriented organization with a sense of urgency and ethics.

This person will:

Develop and implement a strategic annual marketing and media plan for the organization, public programs and events, individual HistoryMakers and the Executive Director.
Coordinate communications activities for The HistoryMakers and provide support for the organization to upgrade its communications capacity in an Internet savvy world with a diverse client base.
Maintain The HistoryMakers website keeping the site updated and current including graphics, animation, content and functionality.
Monitor web server and site technical performance and implement search engine optimization strategies.
Maximize online affiliate opportunities and revenue generation for The HistoryMakers brand.
Source and manage new revenue generating online marketing opportunities.
Work 50-60 hours per week out of The HistoryMakers’ office.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

Proven website management experience.
Ability to edit HTML and Javascript.
Experience with Flash, Photoshop CS4 and FileMaker Pro 11.
Experience with video streaming and video encoding and digitizing.
Experience running and evaluating web statistics and online marketing campaigns which include the management of pay per click (PPC) campaigns.
Flexible attitude and proven experience working in a small team.
Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong editorial and proof-reading skills and high level of attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
Ability to follow through on requests, queries and pitches and get rapid results.
Ability to work autonomously and without a high level of support or infrastructure.
Ability to work outside of normal office hours.
Ability to devise creative and innovative marketing and public relations strategies and solutions.

Required Experience

Writing for the media and for a range of marketing applications (including marketing collateral and web).
Working with, briefing and managing marketing vendors including graphic designers and photographers.
Working within brand and messaging guidelines.

Educational Requirements

Undergraduate degree required.
3-5 years experience in Social Media and Web Development applications
Have experience with the educational system (grades K-12) in developing educational curriculum for social studies, language arts and reading/literacy initiatives;

The HistoryMakers is a growing and dynamic 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating an unprecedented national video oral history archival institution recording the stories of both well known and unsung African American HistoryMakers.
