Position Overview:

Qualified candidates for this position would welcome the opportunity to interface daily with non-native English speaking students and staff. The central role of this position is to advocate for TEC students to best present their specific skill sets, bilingual capabilities, and tremendous motivation for success to employers. This position reports to the Director of Admissions and Career Services. The English Center offers excellent benefits including four weeks of vacation; employer paid health benefits after two months; 12 days sick leave; and 403b retirement plan.

Profile of the Position:

Goals established for this position are based on the needs of The English Center, the requirements of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) contract which funds the English Center and the minimum program completion and placement requirements of ACCET, our accrediting agency.

Activities of the position include, but are not limited to:

– Providing job development and placement services for students who have completed at least the Level 3 Career curriculum. This position places approximately 80 graduates per fiscal year.

– Establishing and maintaining linkages with a minimum of 3 key employers per year, for example, The Port of Oakland, Alameda and Oakland Unified School Districts, Alameda and Oakland County Social Services, Jack London Square Market, and Kaiser Permanente. Hold career fairs twice annually.

– Providing business services to local businesses including recruitment events, resume-writing workshops, and job fairs.

– Engaging employers to participate in TEC career events such as on-site mock-interview and on-the-job training opportunities.

– Promoting TEC to employers for customized training contracts.

– Teaching at least the Level 3 Career Class. Assisting students in the creation of a resume, cover letter and online applications; conducting career readiness workshops.

– Working closely with TEC Career Counselor, record and report participants’ employment outcome and retention.

– Accessing current marketplace employment trends employing web searches, web site, job sites, job fairs, emails and postings to find jobs, and then making those available to students.

– Utilizing current marketplace trends to inform career curriculum.

– Updating job development activities in record-tracking systems including but are not limited to SalesForce and Caljobs.

– Related duties when assigned.

Flexible work hours are required to accommodate students enrolled in morning, afternoon, and evening classes. This position is full time.

Position Requirements:

BA/BS with at least one year related experience working with participants with lower English proficiency; experience in a WIA/WIOA setting preferred.
Attention to detail, service-oriented, organizational skill, great time management, flexibility, accountability, and a sense of urgency to meet program deadlines and requirements.
Bilingual a plus. Please state language/s and fluency in your application.
Problem-solving skills, organizational and time management skills, and excellent English language and cross-cultural communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer, email and internet applications
