Associate Director of Operations – A Place Called Home – Los Angeles, CA

SUMMARY

Oversees and manages internal day-to-day operations, while working under the Chief Operations Officer on strategic organizational plans, goals and tactics. This position is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining efficient and effective systems that meet applicable guidelines of regulating agencies (i.e. GAAP, EEOC, OSHA, etc). The Associate Director of Operations will provide leadership, strategic direction and hands-on management for the areas and teams of Facilities Management and Maintenance, Safety and Security, Information Technology, and Transportation. In addition, the Associate Director of Operations will develop knowledgeable and productive partnerships with Programs, Services, Fund Development and Community Engagement departments. Essential Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Operations will provide leadership and management for the day-to-day internal operations through the following responsibilities:

Work under the COO to implement processes for successful achievement of goals and objectives as laid out in the organizational strategic and operations plans
Provide a strong management presence with active day-to-day involvement in upholding policy and administrative directives for all programs and services; maintaining a deep and broad knowledge of all programs; and providing an open-door policy for direct reports (operations and facilities staff) and all staff
Lead performance management and review processes for Operations, Facilities, Transportation, and Safety and Security staff, contractors and vendors, in compliance with organizational goals and methods
Identify and leverage opportunities to develop cross-program operational strengths, allowing APCH to take advantage of new opportunities and overcome barriers to organizational and infrastructural excellence and growth
Identify best practices to improve internal systems in alignment with annual goals, budget, and future planning
Prepare and submit an annual budget for purview areas, provide diligent fiscal oversight to operate effectively within approved budget, and report accurately on financial progress made/challenges encountered
Oversee staff that manage APCH’s physical campus maintenance and improvements to ensure safety, cleanliness, compliance with all building and safety regulations, and efficiency for fulfillment of program goals
Provide supervision and leadership for Facilities Manager and team
Ensure APCH’s private carrier fleet is maintained for safe passage of clients as per PUC (California Public Utilities Commission) and CHP (California Highway Patrol) regulations
Lead technical staff and contractors in successfully meeting current and developing IT needs (hardware and software) and communications needs (telephone, radios)

Qualifications and Required Experience

Facility Management Certificate and knowledge of construction a plus
Valid driver’s license with clear DMV record (Passenger endorsement a plus but not required)
Bilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred

Education and Experience Requirements:

MBA or Masters Degree Organizational Leadership, Non-Profit Administration, or related field or BA degree with equivalent experience preferred
Minimum of 5 years experience and a track record in mid to senior operational management
Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems

Physical and Mental Demands

Able to work in dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center

Sitting for long periods and continual use of hands for typing and clerical functions requiring good vision and focus

Standing, Walking around campus

Ability to move large and heavy items up to 50 pounds (occasional assistance for warehouse, loading and unloading of deliveries, etc.)

Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone communications
