WORK SCHEDULE: 19 hours/week, including occasional weekend hours

We are looking for part-time assistance for our efforts to mobilize the community to welcome newly arriving refugees. **

JOB SUMMARY

The Volunteer Services Assistant supports the Volunteer Coordinator in engaging new volunteers, ensures that interested volunteers understand how they can engage with Volunteer Services, and orients volunteers as quickly as possible. The Volunteer Services Assistant also coordinates a large quantity of furniture and other items needed to furnish new refugees’ homes. This is a part-time, temporary position based in our Walnut Creek office: 19 hours per week for six months. This may include occasionally working on weekends.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Assist Volunteer Coordinator in responding to new volunteer inquiries, answering questions, and tracking volunteer applications.
· Provide volunteers with background and education on JFCS East Bay services and how we work with refugee clients.
· Coordinate the sourcing, storing, and transporting of in-kind donations (household furnishings).
· Interact with and follow-up with individuals, congregations, churches, community groups, and school groups that wish to donate in-kind items.
· Pick up and coordinate delivery of in-kind donations to clients’ homes, agency office, and agency storage unit.
· Motivate and empower groups and individuals in assisting refugees through collections and in-kind donations.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

· Excellent organizational skills.
· Strong computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
· Strong telephone skills.
· Experience in an office setting.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Comfortable with multi-tasking and tracking details.
· Willingness to pick up and deliver in-kind donations as needed.
· Drivers license and own car required.
· Interest in refugee issues preferred.
· Interest in multicultural issues and working with Muslim populations.
· Strong community organizing skills.
· Willingness to be flexible about working time, including possible weekend needs.
