Teaching Assistant – Silicon Valley Education Foundation – San Jose, CA

Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) has been partnering with school districts since 2008 to offer Elevate [Math] and [Science] summer intervention programs that prepare students to successfully complete their next level Common Core math or science course. Elevate’s goal is to place the “on-the-bubble” students back on a college and career bound pathway.

This year we are excited to offer the following summer programs:

Elevate [Math] 7
Elevate [Math] 8
Elevate [Math] 9
Elevate [Math] 10
Elevate [Science] Biology
Elevate [Science] Chemistry
Elevate [Science] Forensics

Program Times:

The 19-day program will begin approximately mid-June through end of July. (The exact dates are determined by each district.)

Each session runs from 8:00am -12:00pm (or a time that matches school needs.)

There is a college or STEM field trip and college info night that takes place after the morning Elevate session.

The 24-day program will begin approximately mid-June through end of July. (The exact dates are determined by each district.)

Each session runs from 8:00am -1:30pm (or a time that matches school needs.)

There is a science field trip and college info night that takes place after the morning Elevate session.

Location:

Each class is held at a specific site determined by each participating school district. Please inquire about participating school districts.

Compensation:

You will be paid a stipend of $1800 for assisting the 19 day program and participating in required PD.

You will be paid a stipend of $2200 for assisting the 24-day program and participating in required PD.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Support 1-2 teachers to lead instruction in math or science.
Work with students in small groups. Guide their work with questioning and checks for understanding.
Help set-up and facilitate laboratory experiments or group projects.
Actively promote and manage student attendance and enrollment.
Serve as a positive role model, valuing education and its benefits.
Support the integration of technology into learning through use of Khan Academy and Edmodo.
Share your college pathway story with students.
Help organize and attend college-focused activities, encouraging students and families to participate.

Qualifications/Background:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Comfortable teaching science and/or math
Currently enrolled in college or recent graduate strongly preferred
Spanish or Vietnamese bilingual a plus
To work with students, Proof of TB test results and district-specific fingerprinting are required. Both costs will be reimbursed by SVEF.
