Research Assistant Position – Rockville – Children’s National Health System Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders

Job description
The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD) at Children’s National Health System is seeking applications for either a part time or a full time Research Assistant.

The goal of our research program is to describe non‐social cognitive deficits in high functioning autismspectrum disorders and develop interventions to improve functioning in these areas. We aim to describe phenotypes in autism that may help identify the underlying genetic associations and causes of ASD. The primary focus of our intervention and phenotyping work is executive function flexibility skills, learning, and stereotypical/obsessive behaviors. The goal of these investigations is to develop treatments that promote enhanced executive function in children with ASD and to determine whether interventions create changes in brain functioning. While this position will be involved in several projects, a major project that this position will be responsible for consists of evaluating Sesame Street’s new ‘See Amazing’ program (http://autism.sesamestreet.org).

The Research Assistant will manage and coordinate research studies, as well as work closely with the research team to manage participants’ experiences throughout the studies. Responsibilities include child testing, parent interviews, participant recruitment, data collection and management, IRB protocol management, grant preparation, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts. While not required, a car is very helpful for this position. This position requires some Saturday work.

A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts is required. A strong background in psychology, biology, and/or health sciences is preferred. Prior experience with research, statistics, and/or children with disabilities is strongly recommended. This position provides valuable experience and publication opportunities for candidates interested in pursuing degrees in psychology or medicine under the supervision of Lauren Kenworthy, PhD, Laura Anthony, PhD, John Strang, PsyD, as well as other Children’s National and George Washington University faculty members.

Applications are being accepted for a March 2016 start date. We require a one‐year commitment. Salary iscompetitive.
