Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory
The Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory (PWBF) provides year-round, out-of-school time, apprenticeships. Through immersion in the maritime arts and sciences, youth build on their existing capacity and develop the competencies and resilience necessary to thrive in post-secondary education and employment.

The Program Assistant provides support to the Program Director for the Boat Build and Sail Program. This includes mentoring and teaching students, as well as responsibility to the organization’s facilities and assets including shop maintenance and cleanliness. The Program Assistant is also responsible for administrative, program, and social and emotional learning support. The Program Assistant reports directly to the Program Director. This is an hourly position at 13.50/hour.

Responsibilities
Program Administration
Manage enrollment and attendance on online database
Support management of student files
Manage the weekly Clean-Up assignment board
Help prepare materials and projects for daily program
Aid in program recruitment and enrollment

Program Support
Co-lead daily BoatBuild afterschool program
Coach and instruct students in maritime craft techniques
Assist in enforcement of program rules and expectations
Model and monitor shop safety practices
Support students’ independent raft praxis
Model and monitor cleanliness and respect for facilities
Co-lead occasional field trips and overnights
Help organize benchmark celebrations
Aid in training program volunteers
Social and Emotional Learning

Be available to students as a mentor
Refer students to the PWBF’s counselor as needed
Contribute relevant case conferencing
Participate in Professional Development
Qualifications:

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Relevant post-secondary level course work; Bachelor’s preferred

Skills & Requirements
Desire to work with young people
Willingness and ability to learn basic carpentry
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Computer literacy; fluency in Microsoft Office Suite
Achievement-motivated to work with Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory to set and surpass realistic goals
Ability to lift 50 lbs overhead
