Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes to public policy.

As principal support staff for the Executive Director, the Executive Assistant and Events Consultant will perform skilled administrative services and provide high level event planning and management support to the Executive Director. The Executive Assistant and Events Consultant continually looks for ways to improve administrative operations and to promote MBCC’s mission, philosophy, and goals.

The Executive Assistant and Events Consultant will assist with building and promoting special events and projects for the organization and occasionally for MBCC’s sister organization, Silent Spring Institute (SSI). The Executive Assistant and Events Consultant will support all aspects of the Against the Tide events and the Lesbians and Friends: Dance for Prevention.

The flexibility of the position is substantial. This consultant position offers telecommuting and a part-time schedule of 20 hours Monday through Friday, morning hours preferred. Travel is minimal except for on-site assistance required the day before and the day of major 2016/2017 events: Against the Tide in Hopkinton in June, Against the Tide in Brewster in August, and the Lesbians and Friends Dance in October. There may be infrequent, but additional and necessary trips required to attend health fairs (throughout Central MA) and/or to participate in political work at the Massachusetts State House (Boston). General office costs, phone, and travel expenses are not reimbursed for this position. There are no benefits offered at this time. As a consultant, you will be responsible for your own taxes. You must reside in Massachusetts

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative
Serve as an Assistant to the Executive Director: draft emails as dictated via phone, proof routine communications, write talking points for meetings and speaking engagements, manage the flow of emails and more.
Facilitate the management and delegation of tasks to interns supporting special events.
Support the Executive Director as she manages and delegates tasks to the Against the Tide Head Chairwoman of the Against the Tide Event Committee along with all committee members.
Special Event & Fundraising Support

Oversee the responsibilities of lower level support staff, interns, and volunteers. Review and proof all materials from interns.
Support Event Logistics in the transportation of materials from the Rockland Office to Events throughout Massachusetts.
Along with the Program and Development Coordinator, support social media for Special Events.
Assist with new and ongoing outreach efforts to generate new event participants, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and vendors via email, phone, Firstgiving software, and social media.
Manage and maintain multiple organization databases, ensure accurate information and oversee recordkeeping for outreach activities.
Draft and proof official event invitations, thank you notes, and other routine communications for event participants, sponsors, and volunteers.
Ensure the publication of special event calendar listings and press releases in local media outlets.
Coordinate Meetup group outreach with specialized communications.
Support Volunteer Coordination and oversee Volunteer activities for events along with the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
B.A. with 2-4 years of experience in related position.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including editing and proofreading.
Ability to work under the pressure of strict deadlines.
Participatory work style and ability to receive feedback.
Experienced with time management, meticulous and detail oriented, able to manage a large volume of email and phone messages.
Mandatory computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), experience with social media required, and familiarity with WordPress recommended.
Familiarity with issues in environmental health, toxics activism, and breast cancer prevention preferred.
SALARY: Competitive based on experience
