Online Marketing Manager – Island Press Center for Resource Economics – Washington, DC

Island Press seeks a talented, committed Online Marketing Manager to develop and implement new forms of online and digital content delivery through channels such as Flipboard magazines, Medium channels, Webinars, Podcasts, Video channels, and course learning modules. S/he will work closely with the Editor of the Island Press Urban Resilience Project to promote the project, its thought leaders, and its content, as well as to curate important and creative thinking on urban resilience from a wide variety of online sources for use in these products. In addition, s/he will work with our marketing team to create these products to promote our books and authors in our key publishing areas. The position will also be responsible for developing metrics and reports on the impact of online marketing content.

The Online Marketing Manager is an extra-budgetary, grant funded position. At this time, resources are available to fund this position through October 31, 2017 and efforts are in place to extend beyond that date.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a knowledge and passion for issues including: environmental sustainability, social justice, and resilient cities. Proven ability to write, edit, and curate content to reach different audiences in these areas, with a preference to those with experience reaching low-income communities.

An undergraduate degree is required along with five or more years of editorial and/or marketing experience with familiarity of and creativity with online and digital communication, social media, and digital publishing platforms. Candidates must possess an excellent ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with others across the organization and to build relationships both internally and with external partners. Qualities include strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and set priorities for the position. The ideal candidate will be part editor, part digital maven, and part marketing expert.
