Marketing Manager, New Audiences, BRAVO! CLUB / Special Events – San Francisco Opera

PURPOSE: To promote and sell opera to groups of new prospective single-ticket buyers, to influencers in the community, to the tourism industry; to manage marketing collateral and electronic media production schedules and day-of-event onsite coordination for large audience development events; and to manage oversight of the activities of the BRAVO! CLUB (San Francisco Opera’s young professionals group).

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred) or equivalent work experience
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in sales, marketing and/or event planning
Knowledge of outbound sales calling, event planning, and basic marketing principles
Familiarity with operatic repertoire and artists preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Photoshop, and InDesign highly preferred
Proficiency in HTML; Wordfly or similar email platform
Familiarity with CRM; Tessitura preferred
Preferred knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style or Associated Press style guides
Ability to provide excellent customer service and problem solve with multiple internal and external constituencies
Ability to brainstorm and research potential contacts and programs
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative
Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with artists, staff, the public, and volunteers in an effective, professional, confidential and tactful manner
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Manages the personnel requirements of the Data Processing Staff, including supervision, coordination of work assignments, and any departmental issues or concerns

Group Sales

Initiates outbound group sales to alumni and professional organizations, schools, businesses, and other organizations through cold-calling, networking, in-person contacts and direct mail
Builds and maintains database of external sales contacts
Initiates goals and strategies for post-event retention and up-sell to new group sales patrons
Tracks group sales revenue and expenses against specific targets
Establishes and coordinates new sales programs targeting “influencers” and “evangelists” (those who share their love of opera with large groups)
Originates and deepens corporate single-ticket promotions, in association with Development Department
Creates and manages annual Nights at the Opera for specialized professional groups (e.g. Alumni Night) and others (Singles Night, Concierge Night)

BRAVO! CLUB

Oversight of all major events (Membership Parties, Sneak Peek and Luminary) – including coordination of speakers, budget management, and all email promotion for the event
Oversight and management of BRAVO! CLUB’s Opening Night Gala including but not limited to: gala invitation production schedule and supporting email promotions, budget management, ticket strategies/goals, coordination of all sponsor logos and contracts, coordination with third-party vendors, and collaboration with Development Department
Represents SFOpera Marketing department, reports BRAVO!Tix and membership sales and provides guidance at all BRAVO! Board Meetings
Serves as liaison between BRAVO! CLUB and San Francisco Opera regarding any questions, issues, concerns and needs raised with regard to BRAVO! CLUB’s role as a successful audience development tool for SFO
Initiates strategies in collaboration with BRAVO! Board members and Opera marketing team to strengthen the membership of B!C and the role of B!Tix as a retention tool for first time ticket buyers
Coordinates financial records: budget, contracts, and invoices
Collaborates on scheduling, creation and completion of all marketing materials including but not limited to email, direct mail, and distribution collateral; creates and manages all website content

Special Event Coordination

Executes project and day-of-event onsite coordination for large audience development events (AT&T Park simulcast, Opera in the Park, Stern Grove, Open House)
Manages the print collateral and electronic media production schedules for these events
Responsible for volunteer management and overall marketing work-flow at events

Tourism Outreach

Creates, coordinates and strengthens partnerships through regular communications with concierges, WHERE magazine and the SF Convention and Visitors Bureau

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned
