Summary Statement:

Reporting to the Director of Development, The Manager of Institutional Giving is responsible for helping to raise a portion of the agency’s annual operating budget through the successful submission of proposals and grants. The Manager of Institutional Giving is responsible for the overall fundraising strategy for foundations, corporations, and private funders but partners closely with the Sr. Manager of Communications and Outreach, Events and Social Media Manager, and Volunteer Coordinator to develop qualified leads, submit proposals, and steward/cultivate potential and existing institutional donors. The Manager of Institutional Giving develops and writes proposals to foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicates the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders, assembles and submits grant requests, establishes and maintains contact with foundation and institutional funders, conducts prospect research, maintains a calendar of submissions and other deadlines, and ensures prompt acknowledgement of foundation and other institutional gifts. The Manager of Institutional Giving is a member of the Board-driven Development Committee.

Job duties include:

Manage the grant development process (for private, corporate, foundation applications) from start to finish, including drafting compelling cover letters, letters of intent and full proposals, developing budgets and timelines, and producing progress reports and final reports, as necessary.

Research, identify, cultivate, obtain, and steward new corporate, foundational, and private funding prospects.

Provide stewardship to current donors through regular written updates to corporate and foundation donors.

Prioritize to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meeting deadlines and managing supplemental material required for proposals.

Establish and maintains personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers.

Maintain a grant proposal and reporting calendar to ensure deadlines are met and grant requirements are fulfilled.

In collaboration with the Finance Department, develop proposal/program budgets for inclusion in funding requests.

Develop timeline for grant/funding deadlines and reporting.

Work with internal departments to obtain accurate programmatic and budgetary information, and to gather information necessary to produce accurate reports to current grantors.

Ensure that funder’s reporting requirements are met through communication with accounting department, database manager, and program staff.

Maintain accurate calendars and record keeping in the database, networked hard drive, and paper files.

Maintain impeccable financial records to ensure grant awards are received and booked in a timely fashion; prepare data for variance reports.

Support the development and creation of marketing and fundraising materials.

Prepare presentations, briefings and reports prior to events and meetings.

Maintain and implement funding calendar activities, including cultivation activities.

Fulfill additional grants-related writing projects (e.g. donor acknowledgement letters, special correspondence with grantors such as program progress reports, and holiday cards) as needed.

Partner with Sr. Manager of Communications and Outreach, Event and Social Media Manager, and Volunteer Coordinator on targeted outreach, solicitation strategies, and volunteer opportunities that will enhance funders’ relationship with Raphael House.

Represent Raphael House at tabling events, corporate/foundation functions, and speaking engagements to help build awareness and support for Raphael House.

Other:

Develop budgets that relate to areas for which primary responsibility is assigned; monitor costs to ensure that expenses stay within approved budgets.

Required Skills:

3-5 years grant writing experience in a nonprofit or institutional setting.
Excellent persuasive writing skills.
Experience with corporate fundraising and/or business proposals.
Detail oriented, deadline driven.
Proved track record of meeting and exceeding goals.
Proficient with Raiser’s Edge.
Strong computer skills (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
Ability to function independently and as a member of a team
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
Fluency with financial data and agency budgets.
Strong computer skills (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and ability to independently compose donor letters and email communications
Ability to motivate and work well with volunteers, including Board of Directors.
Ability to work under pressure, stay flexible, and maintain sense of humor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of three years’ grant writing experience for a similarly sized (or larger) organization. Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Sensitivity and understanding of the issues around homelessness and an understanding of the mission of Raphael House. Ability to work some evenings, weekends and/or longer hours. Ability to lift 20-30 lbs.

Salary:

Starting salary range $50-55K annually. Full-time employee benefits include: retirement plan, medical/dental insurance, paid vacation, holiday, and sick days.
