Many Hopes is raising a generation of children in Kenya with an imagination for justice and the tools to act on it. We believe that within a generation the most influential people in Kenya need to be those who care the most about justice, and this will be achieved by today’s children, not charity alone.
We currently operate four girls’ homes, and in the coming years will be opening four boys’ homes, school and justice center. In the U.S. our team focuses on fundraising and volunteer campaigns to ensure our Kenyan operations have the support they need.
Many Hopes is at an exciting time in our history. Fundraising efforts will be significantly scaled up over the coming years to fund new and existing visionary projects in Kenya through to completion.
This new role has been developed to manage core operations of the Many Hopes U.S. team covering Operations, growth of Networks and Volunteer Fundraising Campaigns. We are seeking a dynamic, skilled generalist who loves organizing and has a passion for justice and for growing organizations.
This is a senior position that will work closely with the Founder and play a leadership role driving the organization’s growth and future.
Manage the day to day of the U.S. office to implement the 3 year strategic plan including:
Strategic Plan Reviews: Collaborate with the Founder, team and board to review the strategic plan as required
Communications: Oversee general communications planning and implementation including management of the website and social media
Kenya: Work with Founder to ensure project resources from Mudzini Kwetu are secured as required
Reporting: Work with Development Director to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for donors and the Many Hopes board
Board Meetings: Attend board meetings when required
HR: Recruit and manage staff, volunteers and/or interns required to achieve goals
Fundraising / Networks / Volunteer Campaigns (70%)
Collaborate with the Founder, Director of Development and the Board to ensure annual fundraising strategy/goals are met, providing support where needed
Responsible for fundraising goals related to networks, campaigns, regular giving, events and volunteer fundraising (all fundraising targets except HNWI and grants)
Networks – Grow, equip and manage the following networks to achieve fundraising targets:
Corporate: fundraising networks and corporate partnerships
Faith Groups as fundraising networks
Grassroots Fundraisers (Many Hopes Chapters); develop and implement “chapter in a box” model, grow and manage the Many Hopes U.S. chapter volunteer network
Volunteer Fundraising Campaigns – Develop campaign strategies to meet fundraising targets including:
Campaign strategy and tactics
Collateral; online and physical
Manage key network fundraising events including annual gala in NYC
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
A passion for and belief in Many Hopes’ vision
Excellent organizational skills and experience
Strong understanding of and experience in managing volunteers
Experience in managing fundraising campaigns
Experience in events management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated experience in creation of high quality communications materials
A strong attention to detail
Experience in leadership positions (staff or volunteer) desirable
Experience or strong understanding of international development issues desirable
This role will be full-time and based in New York. Valid US work permit required. Working hours will be flexible and some weekend/evening work expected. Travel to Kenya once a year and occasional travel to other chapters possible.
