Director of Development and Communications – Homestead Community Land Trust – Seattle, WA

ADDRESSING THE NEED FOR PERMANENTLY AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP

Responding to the urgent need for increasing the number of permanently affordable homes in the Greater Seattle area, the Director of Development will play a key role in implementation of Homestead’s new strategic plan. Homestead seeks a results-oriented fundraising professional to create giving and communication strategies that engage diverse stakeholders and tap the power of community to achieve shared goals. This position reports to the Executive Director.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Fundraising

Develop, implement, and analyze a comprehensive fundraising plan including major and individual gifts, foundation relations, operating grants, corporate contributions, and direct mail/online fundraising

Identify new prospective donors, and cultivate, solicit, and steward current donors
Coordinate with Finance and Operations Manager and Executive Director to ensure that funds are properly recorded and that grant budgets and reports are in alignment.
Ensure complete and accurate maintenance of fundraising data in Salesforce CRM
Provide leadership and support to Board fundraising committees and task forces and other volunteers

Communication

Design and implement a communications strategy to support online and offline fundraising initiatives (including donor solicitation materials and an annual report), foster awareness, positive perceptions and to raise the organization’s profile.

Oversee creation and maintenance of collateral and educational materials
Website, quarterly newsletters, social media, blog
Annual report and other external documents
Act as a member of the senior leadership team to represent Homestead through public speaking/outreach events
Work directly and with outside contractors to secure positive publicity for Homestead through effective media relations that generate regular coverage of Homestead and its work
Work with Executive Director in the development of the organization’s brand strategy and messaging and assure brand consistency in communications
Work with Executive Director and the Director of Stewardship on the development of advocacy strategies to effect public policy in favor of homeownership and permanently affordable homeownership

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum three to five years of fundraising or relevant experience with demonstrated success in raising revenue from individuals, government funders, foundations, and/or corporations;
Proven track record of managing a development program and meeting goals from diverse sources
Proven ability to secure 5 to 7 figure gifts for both programmatic and general operating support
Experience with budget preparation and financial management, analysis, and revenue forecasting
Experience in planning and executing successful fundraising and special events
Experience with development databases (experience with Salesforce CRM a plus)

Positive, resilient attitude with a strong willingness to give and receive constructive feedback;
Highly organized, effective manager of own and others’ work
Proficiency in Salesforce, Microsoft Office, online website content management, social media management systems, communications software
Analytical ability to read raw financial data and tell the stories the data represent;
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment across multiple programs and departments
Commitment to and interest in social justice and the role of permanently affordable homeownership in addressing wealth disparity and displacement.
Fluency in English language

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Full time, Exempt position

$55,000 to 60,000/year, health insurance, paid sick leave and vacation, professional development, ORCA card, 403b savings plan.
