Development Officer – The Trevor Project – West Hollywood, CA

The Development Officer is a newly created position of the Development Team of The Trevor Project for either our West Hollywood, New York, or San Francisco office.

The Development Officer-Corporate Giving will report to a seasoned Assoc. Development Director, but will also work closely with the Special Events Director. The focus of this position is to raise funds for The Trevor Project’s programs through corporate partnerships and special event sponsorships. Special emphasis will be engaging Employee Resource/affinity Groups through existing and new corporate partnerships. As well as identifying opportunities with The Trevor Ambassador/NextGen groups.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintain and grow current portfolio of corporate donors with gifts ranging from four to six figure gifts/grants.
Identify funding opportunities that align with the organization’s priorities and needs.
Draft proposals, sponsorship presentations, reports, letters, and supporting documents for solicitation purposes.
Manage and grow corporate partnership program to capture unrestricted support at a variety of levels, including benefit fulfillment and special event management.
Work with Assoc. Director of Development, Special Events Director and Events Manager in the planning and execution of annual fundraising efforts relating to corporations.
Work with the Director of Marketing and Communication to ensure Trevor’s communication and brand strategy are utilized when appropriate as part of corporate partnership solicitations.
Assist in the development and solicitation of corporate decks, corporate recognition pages and corporate ads for event journals.
Ensure the corporate pages on The Trevor Projects’ website are updated to reflect correct crediting on website, as well as marketing, and promotional materials.
Work with Events Manager, and Ambassador and NextGen co-chairs, to increase corporate sponsorship and volunteer participation with Ambassador and NextGen groups.
Maintain updated records in database system.
Provide staff support for senior staff and Board level solicitations, and function as needed as an advocate to enhance awareness of The Trevor Project’s resource development needs.
Ensure corporate stewardship is part of all solicitations.
Participate in all appropriate Trevor meetings as directed.
Other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Assoc. Development Director.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.

A proven fundraiser with a minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in development, with particular emphasis on corporate program and/or event fundraising.
Bachelor’s Degree highly desired.
Excellent writing skills required to produce and edit effective proposals, grants, and marketing materials.
Proven experience and track record of success with fundraising solicitations and the ability and confidence to make “the ask” when appropriate.
Superior interpersonal and presentation skills are needed to work effectively with colleagues, donors, and other stakeholders.
Prior experience working with volunteers, corporate Employee Resource Groups and/or other type of affinity groups.
Experience in using database systems such as Raisers Edge and Salesforce.
Knowledge of LGBTQ and/or health and human services fundraising environment and familiarity with San Francisco/Los Angeles/Chicago/New York fundraising and funders preferred.
Strong organizational skills, with a proven record of managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision.
Prior work with a non-profit organization highly desirable.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid outside conditions. The noise level in the environment is moderate. The employee is required to work some Saturdays, Sunday and evenings.
