Communications / Marketing Assistant – Wilshire Boulevard Temple – Los Angeles, CA

Director of Communications and Marketing

FSLA Status: Non-exempt

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative

Support graphic designer in creating mock-ups, gathering print estimates, submitting files to print, approving proofs
Act as liaison for placing ads with printer, vendors, media
Enforce organization’s brand and identity guidelines with staff and outside designers and writers
Fulfill requests for Temple history and logos from staff and media
Train new staff in communications systems
Coordinate meetings and maintain calendar
Process invoices and prepare department expense reports
Compile and process Temple-wide stationery orders
Maintain and coordinate poster and banner displays with facilities staff
Manage and archive photo, video, and advertising files
Check communications@ emails and distribute assignments as needed
Track email and social media statistics to discern trends and correct errors
Coordinate and communicate with facilities staff to prepare for major events (distribute materials in Sanctuary, move poster displays, etc.)
Participate in High Holy Days and other Temple event administration as needed

Project Management

Create project spec sheets based on submitted project request forms
Track deadlines for current projects re design, content, printing, delivery, and provide weekly status updates
Communicate with staff stakeholders and consultants regarding production schedule
Coordinate mailings and distribution of printed materials (postcards, banners, brochures, posters), including pulling queries and data to determine print quantities
Close projects by inputting final costs and taking notes on the overall production

Social Media, Website, PR

Depending on training, and as the assistant gains experience, he or she will update social media and Temple websites, contribute to creative meetings re design and content, and use graphic design and/or writing skills to create marketing materials and web content.

Skills and Abilities Required:

The candidate for this primarily administrative position must be highly organized, upbeat, and adept at juggling shifting priorities in a large, fast-paced, nonprofit organization. The Communications and Marketing Assistant supports three full-time professionals, including the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Senior Graphic Designer, and the Communications Associate. He or she will use best practices in website content development, social media, cultural event public relations and marketing, graphic design, newsletter writing and editing, and many other areas. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent writing ability.

Knowledge of Jewish holidays and life cycle

Preferred:

Knowledge of communications, graphic design, journalism, public relations, or marketing

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:

Microsoft Office, Word, Excel. Familiarity with social media, InDesign, Photoshop, HTML, Dropbox

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree
