Bookkeeper – Sustainable Agriculture Education (SAGE) – Berkeley, CA

SAGE is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to manage its financial systems. This is a part-time position (40% FTE). Work days and hours are somewhat flexible. The Bookkeeper is supervised by the SAGE Program Director and works closely as part of a team with other SAGE staff.

SAGE’s mission is to cultivate urban-edge places where farming and local food culture can thrive and be celebrated. As a lean, entrepreneurial organization, we work collaboratively with a range of partners including public agencies, farmers, educators, conservationists, health experts, economists, planners, public-interest organizations, and community groups. Our goals are to: (1) cultivate urban-edge places that model sustainable agriculture integrated with resilient communities; (2) broaden the community of supporters for urban-edge farming; and (3) provide expertise, resources, tools and convening opportunities that advance vibrant regional agriculture and help farmers thrive.

Position Responsibilities

Manage financial systems including AP, AR, Payroll, HR benefits, budgets, internal financial reporting and financial reports to funders
Assist with general office management and administration as needed and relevant to financial tasks and budgeting
Supervise Program Associate and part-time Administrative Assistant as relevant to financial tasks and duties
Provide support for project budgeting, contract administration, financial reporting and fundraising
Participate in implementation of SAGE’s strategic plan

Qualifications

Experience managing financial and administrative systems: at least five years
Expertise in QuickBooksPro
Expertise in Excel and other MS Office programs
Some experience or familiarity with financial reporting for grants, management of contracts and leases
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communications, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Strong writing skills
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, contributing to a positive workplace culture
Dedication, patience and a sense of humor
Some experience with Salesforce, preferable
Experience working for a nonprofit organization, preferable

Workplace

The position will have a work station at the SAGE office in the David Brower Center in Berkeley.
