Common Sense is seeking a talented, experienced Vice President of Individual Giving with proven knowledge and experience in fundraising, and experience leading and inspiring teams. The ideal candidate will be passionate about collaboratively creating and fostering a culture of philanthropy that helps achieve our revenue goals while attracting, growing and retaining our base of donor support.

POSITION SUMMARY

Serve as lead strategist and manager of national individual giving program – major gifts, annual fund, events, and campaigns. Oversee donor communications and development operations. Leads a team of 7, including development staff in San Francisco and in three regional offices (NY, LA, DC). Reports to Chief Development and Strategy Officer.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Collaborate with the Chief Development and Strategy Officer to create a comprehensive three-year fundraising plan. Take the lead on developing the major gifts and individual giving strategy and annual plans;
Direct all individual giving fundraising efforts including major gifts, events, annual giving, donor councils, and campaigns;
Actively work with the CSO, CEO, President and Board members on successful planning and execution of $100 million growth campaign; staff campaign committee meetings; provide weekly assignments and monthly reporting to Board volunteers;
Collaborate with CSO and President/COO in development and refresh of campaign materials (case statement, presentations, videos);
Recruit hosts, plan and execute Campaign roadshow events;
Effectively cultivate and manage a portfolio of approximately 125-150 active campaign prospects; focusing primarily on gifts in $100,000-$1,000,000+ range;
Serve as lead strategist with CSO, CEO and key trustees on cultivating and soliciting principle gifts ($100K and above);
Evaluate and enhance existing annual fund programming, online giving, and membership campaigns; develop and implement creative programs to engage prospective donors, increase donor retention, and renew existing donors;
Monitor all donor information; provide and present fundraising reports and statistical analysis to CSO, board and senior leaders;
Oversee development events (friendraisers and fundraisers) across the regions including the signature national event, the Common Sense Media Awards
Refine and manage a stewardship and donor communications program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors;
Establish clear, realistic, and transparent fundraising success metrics; provide timely and accurate reports to the CSO, CEO, Board of Directors and Committees on all fundraising activities;
Oversee all development operations for the department; ensure that all systems and processes, from data capture to gift acceptances and processing, follow sound accountability practices;
Recruit, develop, and mentor the individual giving and development operations team

WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RESUME

Minimum of 8 years experience in progressively responsible fundraising positions, including direct responsibility for cultivation, soliciting, and stewarding gifts of $100,000 or more;
Demonstrated experience in formulating visionary strategies, gift opportunities, and presentation materials that inspire individual donors at all giving levels;
Experience managing an integrated individual giving program – major giving, events, annual appeal.
Proven track record and experience helping to lead major gifts or capital campaign;
Depth of knowledge of individual fund development and fundraising operations along with a demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and successfully complete comprehensive campaigns;
Proven success in leading a team of 5 or more while creating a goal-oriented environment that empowers and inspires;
High level of comfort and effectiveness working with high net worth individuals and corporate business leaders;
Excellent written and oral communication skills; adeptness in making a compelling case
Collaborates well with others; high level of intra-and inter-departmental coordination required
Personal flexibility to travel and work evenings if required

B.A./B.S. degree in related field required; Masters degree preferred
