Staff Accountant – Center for Youth Wellness – San Francisco, CA

RELEVANCE OF THE POSITION

The Staff Accountant for the Center for Youth Wellness is a key contributor to the smooth operation of the organization. The Staff Accountant will carry out the day-to-day financial transactions of the Center for Youth Wellness (a non-profit organization) and assist the Director of Finance and Operations with various financial tasks. The Staff Accountant will be an energetic, efficient finance professional with incredible attention-to-detail and a passion for the Center for Youth Wellness’ mission.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out the day-to-day financial transactions of the organization .This includes:
Reviewing all purchase orders, check requests, expense reimbursements and invoices for mechanical accuracy and proper authorization.
Entering invoices into the financial reporting system.
Cutting Accounts Payable checks once a week for signature by the VP of Finance and/or the CEO.
Documenting cash receipts and entering them in to accounting system.
Review credit card statement purchases ensuring proper documentation and approvals are in place.
Reviewing bank statement to ensure all transactions are authorized and have been recorded in the financial reporting system.
Compiling payroll information for allocation purposes.
Managing petty cash account

Communicates in writing and by phone with suppliers and vendors regarding financial transactions.
Enters month-end adjusting journal entries.
Assists with month-end reconciliations.
Generates annual 1099 forms for vendors.
Assists the Director of Finance with tax returns and audit schedules for the annual audit.
Assists Director of Finance & Operations with facility, security and IT issues.
Trains and manages finance interns as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

CRITICAL CRITERIA

Required Knowledge:

At least two years of accounting or bookkeeping experience including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reporting.
Knowledge of MIP or other computerized accounting systems a plus preferably a fund accounting package.
Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
Knowledge of non-profit accounting and bookkeeping standards on both the revenue and expense side.

Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to operate calculator, computer, and other general office equipment
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English.
Ability to keep client matters strictly confidential.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Excellent attention-to-detail.
Ability to work on-site at the CYW offices.

Reports to: The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and Operations
