Program Officer – Presidential Precinct – Charlottesville, VA

PROGRAM OFFICER POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Officer is an entry-level position with substantial room for growth. The successful candidate will report to the Managing Director of the Presidential Precinct and will provide programmatic and administrative support for all programs including the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (YALI), YALI Regional Leadership Centers, International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), bespoke programs, and virtual programing through the Presidential Precinct Network. The focus of the position is to provide strategic leadership to programs, develop and expand Fee-For-Service custom programs, market and promote our program strengths and services, increase community awareness, and plan, organize and administer programs and proposals during peak programing periods.

The Program Officer will liaison with Precinct partners, program staff, and volunteers, National Program Agencies (NPA), and Department of State personnel, and will assist the Managing Director with general administrative duties and fundraising efforts.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The position requires strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, strategic and critical thinking skills, marketing and promotional skills, ability to lead and contribute ideas, and ability to get timely, effective results.

Ideal characteristics for this position include: experience with educational development, international exchanges, working with volunteers and funders, ability to be a team player, cross-cultural sensitivity, public speaking/presentation skills, and broad understanding of topics and issues in fields such government, civil society, economic development, and rule of law.

STATUS

The Program Officer shall be an independent contractor hired by the Managing Director. The Precinct shall not be responsible to the Program Officer for any taxes, employment benefits or other prerequisites beyond the contract sums due under the employment agreement.
