The Function The Knowledge Communications Officer is a strategic role that supports both Marie Stopes International’s (MSI) US Agency for International Development (USAID) Programmes Team and the MSI-US office. The position’s function will contribute to USAID team’s overall responsibility for safeguarding and advancing MSI’s relationship with USAID through maintaining the highest standards of communications collateral. In addition, this role supports the MSI US office in enhancing the standing of MSI with US based constituencies; and in protecting and strengthening MSI’s brand in the US. The Role The Knowledge Communications Officer has responsibility for ensuring all materials committed to USAID under the MSI partnership’s global portfolio of USAID awards are delivered to an extremely high-standard, thereby ensuring MSI’s excellent relationship with USAID is maintained and built-upon, and MSI technical documents increasingly impact and influence USAID’s agenda.

The Officer will also support the development of materials for policy and stakeholder engagement, and manage the MSI US’s website, social media, and other key communications components.

Key Responsibilities • Lead the writing and publication of USAID-specific best practice documents, lessons learned publications, study reports, organizational impact reports all other materials committed to in MSI’s global portfolio of USAD awards; • Quality assure all USAID-related publications to ensure they meet USAID’s high standards;

• Lead planning of USAID-related events (technical consultations, end of project events, etc.), including production of materials (including presentations), preparation of presenters, and oversight of logistics relating to visual materials;

• Work closely with colleagues in the USAID Programmes Team to ensure synergies and efficiencies are maximised and USAID-specific lessons learned are documented and disseminated across the organisation;

• For MSI US, provide support to protect and strengthen MSI’s brand in the US political and policy context, including development and management of risk mitigation strategy;

• Lead efforts to update and maintain the MSI US website with an orientation towards MSI’s global mission and US fundraising and policy engagement;

• Lead efforts to develop and implement a social media strategy and engagement for MSI US:

• Ensure coordination and engagement with MSI’s London-based global communications team and leadership, and provide support as requested:

• Position MSI with US based communities as expert on key topics, including global family planning, health systems strengthening, innovative financing, and others.

• Ensure all communications are aligned to USAID and MSI US organizational strategies, taking account of donor priorities and sensitivities.

• Support Executive Director of MSI US in external communications, speaking events, etc. Experience (essential/desirable)

• Experience of turning technical information into external publications for a USAID audience (essential).

• Experience of planning and executing high-quality technical events for USAID and others (essential).

• Track record of managing both technical and routine day to day communications requirements for an organization and/or company (essential).

• Experience generating donor-focused communications materials (essential). • Experience creating communications collateral in both digital and paper formats (essential).

• Experience performing media scans, tracking press hits, and drafting press communications (desirable).

• .Experience in developing organization-wide crisis communications plans (essential). Qualifications and Training (essential/desirable)

• Excellent communicator, written and oral, in English (essential).

• Knowledgeable and adept at social media engagement, including online strategies and campaigns through Twitter, Facebook, etc. (essential).

• Knowledgeable and adept at website management (essential).

• Familiarity with relevant media outlets, including global health journals, publication protocols and requirements, and basic standards of engagement (desirable).

• Knowledge of and adept with online communications platforms, e.g. Constant Contact (essential).

• Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (desirable).

• Proficiency in tracking digital campaigns and a detailed understanding of Google Analytics (essential).

• Thorough understanding of effective communication and segmentation of audiences (essential).
