POSITION TITLE: Funders of the Andean-Amazon Basin Program Manager

Location: Presidio, San Francisco, CA

Founded in 1987 and located in San Francisco’s Presidio, the Consultative Group on Biological Diversity (CGBD) is a professional association of grantmakers with a shared vision for a sustainable, just and healthy future for all life on Earth, advanced by a vibrant and effective philanthropic sector. The CGBD supports member-driven programs and special initiatives that focus on climate change and energy, marine ecosystems, land and freshwater conservation, conservation science, the Gulf of California, and international biodiversity issues. With an annual budget of $1.5M and a staff of 8, the CGBD hosts convenings, briefings, and other educational offerings such as webinars throughout the year. http://www.cgbd.org

Position Overview and Responsibilities

This position is designed to provide program support and guidance to CGBD’s newest program, the Funders of the Amazon Basin (FAB). FAB is a learning group comprised of private, grantmaking foundations that share strategies and lessons learned in order to become more effective grantmakers in the preservation of the Andean-Amazon region. FAB’s vision is to work together for a future sustained by vibrant, thriving communities and flourishing ecosystems in the Andean-Amazon region.

The FAB Program Manager will work with the FAB Program Chairs, and Steering Committee and the CGBD Executive Director to develop strategic and programmatic direction and to implement the Program’s work plan. He/she will provide regular progess and budget updates to the Steering Committee. The Program Manager will also contribute to the overall goals of the FAB program by developing systems for shared learning, fostering communications and planning strategic meetings and events.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the FAB Program Co-Chairs to develop and articulate the strategic and programmatic direction of FAB and implement the Program work plan,
Prepare issue summaries and analyze existing grantmaking on priorities identified by the FAB membership for closer coordination and/or collaboration.
Prepare reports to FAB members and the CGBD Board that summarizes the activities of the FAB Program and progress towards the goals of the annual work plan.
Organize, plan and schedule in-person FAB funder meetings, webinars, and calls to ensure that funders effectively meet their desired objectives, including developing the meeting agenda, venue site research and selection, venue contract negotiation, speaker selection and any follow-up from the meetings.
Assist with the development of the program budget and fundraising.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Research, analytical, and writing skills required to gather and summarize data for reports, identify connections, and prioritize work.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and/or Portuguese.
Familiarity with the Andean-Amazon Region.
An undergraduate or masters degree in a relevant field.
Two years relevant work experience.
Willingness to travel as required.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills

Other Ideal Qualities

Interest in environment development, climate change, energy and finance issues.
Meeting planning experience.
Familiarity or experience with philanthropy.
