Based in San Francisco, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates has a diverse full-time staff that serves a network of affiliates, employee resource groups, trainers, LGBTA executives and a growing family of advocates around the globe.

SUMMARY:

The Development Manager is responsible for Out & Equal’s Foundation and Individual Giving programs. This candidate will be responsible for researching potential foundations, writing LOIs and grants, building foundation relationships, and securing sustainable institutional funding. This position will also continue to build on our individual giving program through innovative online giving and direct mail, a major giving program, live and silent auctions, and year-round donor stewardship. We are looking for a smart, cooperative, energetic candidate to join our phenomenally successful Development Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop, launch, promote, execute and support the acquisition of new foundation giving to generate revenue and engage new prospective institutional partners
Write LOIs and grants as well as reports for current grants
Research and identify prospective partners within specified criteria
Solicit, cultivate, and steward prospective individual donors
Create dynamic and successful silent and live auctions for Out & Equal events
Coordinate online giving efforts
Develop proposals and deliver presentations via email, phone, online grant applications, and in person
Assume overall relationship management responsibility for new partners
Oversee execution of recognition and benefits related to foundation commitments including activation, agreements, signage, online and offline communication channels, and collateral materials
Work with Communications, Events and other departments to develop and execute partnerships
Interact with Out & Equal board members and senior leadership in cultivation of individual donors
Provide account briefings and reporting on development activity on a regular basis
Adhere to Out & Equal brand standards and policies
Demonstrate a commitment to Out & Equal and the mission of the organization
Work with internal stakeholders (and outside agencies of record) to develop strategies and programs to drive partnerships
Work with department team members to steward existing partnerships as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

We seek an individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. This includes ability to handle confidential matters, data, and information. The candidate should be able to assess and anticipate the needs of the Development team and be comfortable dealing with a diverse set of people on the telephone, email, and in person in a friendly, professional manner. Candidates with development or non-profit management experience are preferred.

EDUCATION

BA or BS degree required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of general office procedures and practices, excellent grammar, punctuation and editing skills, exceptional organizational and research methods, and proficiency with personal computers and various software; specifically Word, Excel and Power Point. Candidate must have the ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports, work effectively under pressure and establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with co-workers and those contacted in the course of work. Candidate should have advanced customer service communication skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task. Knowledge of the LGBT community preferred, but not necessary. Candidates should have knowledge of, comfort with, and interest in creating fair and equitable workplaces for LGBT people.
