Financial Planning / Analysis Manager – Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) – New York, NY

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation’s most effective environmental action group, combining the grassroots power of 1.4 million members and online activists with the courtroom clout and expertise of nearly 500 lawyers, scientists and other professionals to fight for the planet and its people in the halls of Congress, communities across the country, and nations around the globe. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking a Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis to work with the Finance team in our NY office.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis to identify, implement and manage an optimal budget process for the organization.
Prepare and monitor short and long term forecasts for operating and capital statements.
Analyze actual to budget variances on a monthly basis.
Consolidate data and collect insight from Program Finance Managers to assist Programs and Department Leaders manage their finances and plan for the future.
Prepare reports for Senior Management, Trustees and donors regarding the state of NRDC’s finances.
Routinely communicate business unit and company consolidated financial and operational performance trends, historical and forecasted, using appropriate metrics.
Suggest trends, resulting implications, key actions, and strategic implications. Coordinate the capital spending review process for the company.
Prepare presentations in support of board and trustee meetings, monthly/quarterly senior leadership meetings and various strategic committees of the company.
Support the strategic planning process.
Perform year over year variance analysis for the annual audit.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required; MBA, MPA or related advanced degree preferred.
Minimum 3 years of budgetary planning/management or financial analysis experience preferred.
Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
Excellent writing skills.
Organized and detail oriented.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial staff.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
