50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now is a nonprofit advocacy organization that recruits and supports local leaders to build citizen movements in their states to ensure that every child has access to a great public school. 50CAN is led by President & Founder Marc Porter Magee and operates campaigns in Minnesota, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Jersey and North Carolina.

About the Job

As a member of 50CAN’s Operations team, you will play a central role in enhancing our financial systems and supporting our financial strategy to ensure the continued sustainability of the organization and its $6 million budget. The Finance Manager will report to 50CAN’s Chief Operating Officer.

• Experience with budgets, forecasting and bookkeeping

• Nonprofit Accounting experience

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with multiple and varied assignments

• Undergraduate degree, preferably in finance or accounting

• At least two years work experience

Key Responsibilities:

Grant Reporting

• Ensure compliance with fiscal and programmatic reporting

• Prepare all materials, including budgets, for new and renewed grants as well as for periodic reports

• Track and monitor restricted grants, including allocating expenses, month-end quality control of grant budgets and recognizing revenue

Fiscal Responsibilities

• Help create systems and structures to ensure continued fiscal viability

• Support the budget process

• Support the annual audit, including assisting with auditor requests and preparing supporting schedules

Oversight of Financial Systems

• Oversee our financial systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness of check requests, credit card reconciliations, accounts receivable and accounts payable

• File all financial paperwork

Financial Reporting

• Complete tax forms and reports

• Track and report lobbying expenses

• Develop financial metrics and reports for senior level management

• Create other financial reports as needed

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.This position is based in either Washington D.C. or New York City, but Washington D.C. is strongly preferred. 50CAN offers a comprehensive benefits package.
