Director, Public/Private Partnerships – Hack the Hood / Center for Media Change – Oakland, CA

Hack the Hood seeks an energetic and purpose-driven non-profit professional to join our team at headquarters in Oakland, CA as the Director of Public and Private Partnerships.

The Director of Public and Private Partnerships reports to the CEO and works closely with the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Education Officer. This role leads and manages strategy, outreach and execution for new and potential public/private partnerships operated by Hack the Hood, including city government and public school district partnerships, county, state and government partnerships, small business and business network partnerships, tech and corporate partnerships and strategic partnerships with other non-profits with whom we operate our programs.

The Private / Public Partnerships Director oversees the design and development of strategic plans for partnership, and works with the executive team on sustainability models for these programs and relationships. This role will be key to moving Hack the Hood’s work to the next level in terms of both program expansion for bootcamps and A-team (our year-round alumni program); as well as identifying and cultivating relationships with allies in government, corporate, and workforce development. All this is in serve of advancing Hack the Hood’s mission of changing the education level, career plans, and income level of the young people ages 16-24.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic planning for partnership recruitment and outreach

Research of Opportunities/ Partners/ Revenue models/Funding (in partnership with Chief Revenue Officer)

Partnership outreach, education, RPFs, recruitment and agreements

Evaluation

Small business and business network outreach

Supporting key logistical coordination with partners on specific projects and tracking impact and outcomes

Work closely with Hack the Hood’s program staff to identify needs and identify various ways to frame and communicate projects to potential partners

Prepare compelling proposals drawing on data from a variety of sources, both internal and external in order to attract partnerships and corporate support

Work in partnership with the communications staff to develop new materials that help to effectively communicate the story of Hack the Hood’s partnerships and overall impact

Identify, cultivate relationships, and build alliances with innovators in the tech and corporate world, and in the civic engagement/future of cities/future of work space so that they support Hack the Hood as a way to help support local people and communities.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

3-6 years related experience in business strategy and/or on-profit management

Strong knowledge of city, county and state agencies, school districts, and workforce development organizations.

Understand of business and small business networks

Familiarity with tech industry and technology

Knowledge of nonprofit sector, especially volunteer users and connecting organizations, preferred

Knowledge and experience in corporate social responsibility /outreach

Experience in both relationship and project management.

Excellent time-management, multi-tasking, organizational, communication, research, analytical, writing, proofreading and interpersonal skills.

Ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, work independently and within a team environment, pay close attention to detail, meet deadlines, do appropriate follow-up, work well under pressure and maintain an enthusiastic work ethic.
