Position Overview:

The Director of Development is responsible for leading Southern Oregon Humane Society’s fundraising, including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects and all SoHumane-related solicitations. The Director of Development will also be responsible for developing and maintaining active and productive relationships with donors, board members, and administration. This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of team members whose main functions is database administration. The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director. This position is part of the Senior Management Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops strategies to meet development goals in line with the organization’s strategic plan.
Designs, implements and manages all fundraising activities including capital campaign, annual appeal, government and foundation grant proposals, individual and corporate gifts, program and exhibit sponsorships, and memberships.
Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.
Maintains contact with and develops grant proposals for foundations and corporations.
Formulates and implements plans for a comprehensive Development Program that meets the short-term and long-term funding requirements of SoHumane.
Works with the Development Committee of the Board of Directors to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals.
Responsible for creating and implementing all fundraising events such as Toast for Tails, donor receptions and lunches, and special events, etc.
Manages the Development Office including: donor records, gift/pledge files, prospect files, while overseeing mailing lists and other data management and clerical procedures.
Manages or oversees Donor Acknowledgement Appreciation & Recognition programs.
Conducts regular development team meetings to ensure the success of achieving our short-term and long-term goals in an effective and timely manner.
Meet revenue goals of $550,000+/year.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
Five to ten years of professional fundraising experience directing development activities or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A commitment to and understanding of avian, wildlife, and environmental issues is a plus.

Desktop publishing, donor software, word processing skills.
Database management skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to work in close proximity to animals (dogs and cats)
