Controller – Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens – Richmond Hill, NY

TITLE: Controller

PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Management

DEPARTMENT: Administration

REPORTS TO: CEO

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

In accordance with the elements of competence established for Boys and Girls Club executives, the Controller is responsible for maintaining timely and accurate agency financial records in accordance with standard fiscal practices and requirements of funders. S/He provides leadership, direction and support to the CEO and Executive Director. In addition, s/he prepares monthly submission of PERs to DYCD and completing monthly financial reports to the board of directors.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Fiscal Management

Responsible for City, State and Federal contract management, including submission of monthly and quarterly bills (or PERs)
Track and report individual program expenditures and income
Continue managing the construction grants from state and city agencies (DASNY, EDC)
Collaborate with the Executive Director, CEO and Executive Committee to develop annual income and expense budget
Coordinate yearly audits with independent and city auditors
Provide timely and complete reporting of financial results and recommendations
Ensure the maintenance of financial records and recordkeeping systems (QuickBooks) to ensure compliance with all regulations. This includes: Entering invoices, issuing disbursements, bank reconciliations and maintaining general ledger accounts.
Train staff in proper procedures regarding cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable and budgeting
Forecast budget variances based on analysis of spending: provide routine budget reports to the Executive Committee , Executive Director and CEO
Assist in creation of strategic plan for the organizatio

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
3-4 years of accounting experience working at a senior level (must have experience working with DYCD and other city agencies)
Working knowledge of QuickBooks & Microsoft Excel
Knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations, youth development services preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other senior staff and the board of directors
