Budget Requisition Specialist – Detroit Public Schools – Detroit, MI

The Budget Requisition Specialist will maintain budgeting and requisitions processes within the Division of Academics. S/he will also develop systems to carefully monitor budgeting and requisitions processes and make appropriate recommendations.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, Academics:

Advise and assist other appropriate staff in the preparation, control and expenditure of their site/office budgets for the purpose of providing information and support; and, ensuring issue identification and resolution.
Analyze information (e.g. projected income and expenditures, etc.) for the purpose of preparing and providing budget recommendations
Assist with budget projections, preparation and presentations
Audit individual school budgets to ensure compliance and adherence to budgeted allotments
Generate various fiscal reports and financial records as required
Maintain various fiscal information, files and records
Monitor various transactions and related financial activity
Prepare and process documents (e.g. information relating to contractual negotiations, budget documents, calculations for cost of step increases, etc.)
Provide compliance information as necessary
Project and plan the needs of future budgets to include cost analyses and proposals and budget allocation formulas
Plans and initiates purchases on behalf of the Academics division
Manage purchases orders and ensure reconciliation of accounts in a timely manner
Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent, Academics or designee

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Advanced knowledge of PeopleSoft 9.0 and Cognos budgeting/finance system
Working knowledge of integrated systems; word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database, XML and other integrated applications
Methods and practices of budgeting and financial record-keeping
General accounting principles and procedures.

EDUCATION

Must possess and provide proof of Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Applications received with proof of education attached will be considred incomplete.

EXPERIENCE

At least 2-3 years of previous work experience in a similar position, preferably working in settings that serve low-income students and communities
